Timmerhuis Rotterdam, where old and new collide!

Het Timmerhuis in Rotterdam is a new multifunctional building. The building is designed by O.M.A. the architect Rem Koolhaas and houses a museum, shops, restaurants, offices and homes. Het Timmerhuis consists of the integration of the characteristic L-shaped Stadstimmerhuis from the 50s and new construction at the site where the construction of the '80s was demolished in 2009. On December 11, 2015 Het Timmerhuis was officially opened.

During the renovation and the construction of Het Timmerhuis a lot of attention was paid to safety and the environment. This building is BREEAM Certified Exellent ****. The new section of Het Timmerhuis is built around an innovative steel structure. In order to meet the stringent requirements of fire safety, the steel structure was to be protected. Because of the high requirements for fire resistance and environmentally friendly composition HENSOTHERM 420 KS was chosen from German producer Rudolf Hensel. This product is part of the ORYX product range. It is a water-based intumescent coating, suitable for a fire resistance up to 120 minutes. HENSOTHERM 420 KS meets the strictest environmental standards. The product was subjected to emission testing according to ISO 16000 and ISO 11890-2 GC VOC.
